Lower School

In kindergarten through fifth-grade classrooms, we approach literacy through the Workshop Model in both Reading (Reader’s Workshop) and Writing (Writer’s Workshop). This model, based out of Columbia University’s Teachers College through the work of Lucy Calkins, is constructivist-based and is designed to meet a learner at his or her ability level and grow their abilities from there. We also utilize the Sitton Word Study program in grades K-8 to ensure learners have the spelling and writing mechanics skills to enhance the written word.
Investigations in Number, Data, and Space is our Math program, and it is designed to help all children understand fundamental ideas of number and operations, geometry, data, measurement and early algebra. For Social Studies, we use interactive Storypath units and our Science program is woven throughout all the curricular areas. This hands-on approach creates scientific thinkers who eagerly investigate, research and explore the world around them and record these findings in a systematic way and is closely aligned with our Gardening (Wildcat Gardeners) program. Spanish is the Modern Language focus for grades K-5 and Service Learning happens for each grade through partnerships with local community organizations. Enrichment classes include art, music, healthful living, and faith studies.
Middle School

Middle School at Trinity includes sixth- through eighth-grades. Language Arts is closely aligned with Social Studies in an integrated Humanities approach. Our Math program begins in sixth- and seventh-grades with Connected Math, which focuses on helping students utilize engaging interactive problems and motivating everyday situations to learn math concepts, and transitions into a formal Algebra course in eighth-grade. Science is a core class in middle school and follows the North Carolina science standards.
Modern Language offerings include both Spanish and Latin. Exploratory classes include art, music, fitness, faith studies and life skills. Elective classes change each trimester and offerings can include such interesting topics as web design, pottery, Mathcounts, public speaking and international studies. Service learning continues in this division, with partners tied to directly to the content in core and enrichment classes.
