Spiritual Formation: Grade Level Chapels and Faith Studies Instruction
Grade Level Chapels and Faith Studies Instruction
The stories of Scripture and the experience of worship encourage children to connect the faith that is growing within them to the life they are living.
All Trinity students in every grade receive instruction in Faith Studies in the classroom each week. Faith Studies include knowing factual information about biblical literature, church history, theology and related matters. But at Trinity, Faith Studies is not just academic; it also includes providing children with practices, experiences and relationships that develop and strengthen their faith in God. Our goal is to help the children answer three questions of faith development from a Christian perspective:
1) “Who am I?” [I am a child of God.]
2) “Where am I going?” [Led by the Holy Spirit, I am entering creation as God’s steward.]
3) “What is it all about?” [As God’s servant, my purpose is to love justice & walk humbly.]
It is our desire that each Trinity student grows in his/her relationship with God and knows the power God has given him/her to change the world. Religious education and spiritual formation go hand-in-hand.
It is also our goal to foster in our students an appreciation for and understanding of other traditions in our multicultural world. We approach these traditions and faiths with humility, asking what it is that they can teach us about God and life in this world.
Communal worship is central to the faith studies curriculum and the life of the School. Our worship is religious education; it is faith formation. We want all students to become familiar with and participate in the elements of worship – such as music, prayer, litany and sacrament. For this reason, in addition to Friday’s weekly community chapel, all students also attend a grade-level or multi-grade-level chapel or time of worship each week. The school chaplains, guests, faculty and students lead these occasions.
