General Information: School Hours, Morning Drop-Off, Late Arrivals
Classroom instruction begins promptly at 8am each morning. Students may enter classrooms beginning at 7:45am.
Parents may bring students to the Before-School Program beginning at 7:10am. The program is staffed by an adult who supervises outdoor play or quiet play in the TED room. At 7:45am, these students will go to their classrooms. All parents dropping off students should enter the Trinity lot and drive along the drop-off lane to the end of the sidewalk. Everyone is asked to pull as far forward as possible toward the end of the sidewalk to minimize the backlog of cars. Parents wishing to park and accompany children into the building may park (but not double park) in the Trinity lot. We remind everyone that spaces in the TES lot are limited and will be in especially high demand during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
Late-Arriving Students
School begins each day at 8am. Families should make every effort to drop students off at school before then, allowing time for children to walk to class and settle in. It is important that we begin our day promptly at 8am because we’ve got a lot to learn and no time to waste. There is a less than subtle message about the value of education you send your child when (s)he is repeatedly tardy. To help, the before-school care doors open to receive children at 7:10 at no charge.
Arriving late is detrimental to your child and disruptive to the other children in the classroom. Most classes begin with important directions and lessons outlining the day; any tardy student will miss this information. If you arrive after 8am, please park and walk to the front desk (regardless of the location of your child’s classroom) and sign your child in. Please accompany your kindergarten or first-grade child to his/her classroom if (s)he arrives late to ensure a safe reunion with the class. Sign-in is only necessary if your child is tardy. Records of tardiness and absences will be kept by the Dean of Students and will become part of your child’s permanent record.
Middle School Tardiness
Punctuality is one of the standards we uphold at Trinity Episcopal School. The School requires that students are on time at the beginning of the day and to each class period. We do not have bells in our hallways because we believe “noticing” to be a vital life skill, one that both enriches and keeps us safe. Therefore, middle school students need to be conscientious and independent about time and their schedules.
When students are tardy to class, it is highly disruptive to our learning environment. When students start class a few steps behind their peers, it becomes difficult for them to get back on track for the remainder of the class. To counteract this problem, the Dean of Students’ Office will oversee the following policy:
Six Tardies = After School Detention and a call home to parents from the Dean of Students
Eight Tardies = Two After School Detentions and a call home to parents from the Dean of Students
Ten Tardies = Conference with parents, student, Koinonia leader and Dean of Students
* Tardiness will not be counted if the student has written permission stating why (s)he was late to class or school.
*The “tardy count” starts fresh at the beginning of the each trimester.
*After School Detention will be held every Wednesday from 3:30-4pm and monitored by the Dean of Students’ Office.
Excused Absences
If students need to keep an outside appointment during school hours, they should bring a note from home to their teacher or Koinonia leader. Parents should plan to come to the front desk, sign out the child and retrieve the student from class. Students may not wait on the curb or in the lobby during class time; that is too precious to waste.
Cell Phones, CD Players, Electronic Games
What do all of these things have in common? They are NOT to be in the possession of students while on the Trinity campus OR while attending Trinity functions off campus. Exceptions will be made only with explicit permission from one of the deans or Head of School. These items become a distraction and contribute little or nothing to our learning environment or community. Phones are available to our students for communications. Group access to music is provided by other means. Equipment will be confiscated for the day. On a second offense, a parent will need to retrieve the item.
