Interview. Parents/Guardian of each applicant should schedule an appointment to learn about the program, mission and philosophy of the School. Interviews are conducted by admissions staff and the Head of the School, and are arranged by calling the school office.
Observation/Classroom Visit. Applicants for all grades will be observed in small group or classroom settings as scheduled.
Testing. Each applicant will take part in an assessment, either individually or in a group, depending on the grade level. Students in grades K-4 are tested individually. For more information on this testing, see the CAIS brochure. Students entering grades 5-8 are given the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) at one of the area independent schools. There are additional testing fees for kindergarten students and for those who take the ISEE.
School Records. All previous educational records (including report cards and standardized testing) must be filed with Trinity. Transcript Release forms are included in the application packet and are to be sent directly to the child’s current school. As a general rule, applicants for kindergarten do not have a transcript. Trinity reserves the right to arrange for or request further testing if the admissions committee feels that more information would be beneficial for the decision making process.
Teacher Evaluation Forms. Parents/Guardians of the applicant must arrange for a completed evaluation form from previous or current teachers to be sent to Trinity. Forms are included in the admissions packet. View the K-1 form or 2-8 form
Notification
Kindergarten students (and their older siblings) will be notified on February 29, 2008. All other students will be notified on March 28, 2008. Once the signed contract and the non-refundable $1,200 tuition deposit are received, the student is officially enrolled.
Waiting List
After a grade level is filled, Trinity will maintain a pooled waiting list of admissible students. Students in this pool will not be ranked. If a space becomes available the entire pool for the grade level will be considered to choose the most appropriate child for the space. Keeping the mission of the School in mind, choices are made based on the qualities of the candidate and the nature of the specific class, with the intention of providing the best educational experience for both the individual student and for the class as a whole.
Financial Assistance*
Trinity Episcopal School (TES) is committed to the breadth of the Episcopal tradition in both its unity and diversity. A student of Trinity Episcopal School is challenged to academic excellence while honored as an individual with unique potential. As faculty and families together influence young lives, students themselves will be affirmed as ambassadors of grace, citizens who live and teach an ethic of service and respect for others. A student of Trinity Episcopal is trained in the example of Christ and toward a stewardship of healthy body, lively soul and discerning mind. To this end, Trinity is committed to attracting and admitting a student body that reflects the greater Charlotte community, both culturally and socio-economically.
The School’s Board of Trustees has established two funds to support families who wish to attend Trinity and who need financial assistance. At the same time, we recognize that responsibility for a child’s education rests solely with the family and requires substantial commitment and prioritization of resources on their part. An independent school education is an investment in a child’s future and, therefore, requires sacrifices.
Financial Aid*
A family’s financial situation should not stand in the way of academically qualified students attending our School. To this end, Trinity has a financial aid program made possible, in part, by our Annual Fund. All students (grades K-8) are eligible to apply for the need-based financial aid program, which provide grants ranging up to 92% of tuition per child.
Trinity subscribes to the services of the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) to determine a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. SSS provides, at the request of parents,a financial analysis based on the confidential Parents’ Financial Statement.
Trinity Opportunity Grant*
In response to the growing financial pressure on middle income families attending independent schools, Trinity’s Board of Trustees established the Trinity Opportunity Grant in the fall of 2005. The first wave of students eligible to apply for this grant will be rising sixth, seventh and eighth graders applying for the 2006-2007 school year. The Trinity Opportunity Grant is renewable for students who remain in good standing.
*Please do not submit an application for financial aid until you have submitted an enrollment application and spoken to someone in our Admissions Office.
